DHL Network Globe

In the DHL showroom is a huge round back-projected table (2,4m diameter) with a globe who visualizes the Global Network of DHL’s logistics. ag4 commissioned me to make it multi-touch able. For such huge area there are some expensive commercial solutions, so you have to make a trade off between buy/develop. I decided to make my own system on top of open source solutions. You learn a lot from making your own software and i prefer open source solutions because you get more support from a community then you will ever get from a company and afterwards you know the system to make enhancements for your customer.
The interaction surface is divided into 8 areas. So there are 8 instances of CCV, distributed on two Quadcore machines. The Multiplexer bundles the streams from the camera PC’s and make one TUIO stream out of it and act as an TUIO Server, an frontend can listen to it.
